Spell Card

Spell Card
Spell Cards, also called Magic Cards in the TCG until the release of Magician's Force, are green Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards that have various Effects that alter gameplay. Spell Cards usually have single Effects to provide you with an advantage or a weakness to the opponent. Unlike Trap Cards, you can activate Spell Cards without having to Set them first. You can activate Spell Cards, except Quick-Play Spell Cards, during the same turn you Set them.

Mechanics
You may activate and Set as many Spell Cards as you wish during your turn. All Spell Cards are Spell Speed 1 (meaning they can only be activated as Chain Link 1). Quick-Play Spell Cards are the exception; they are Spell Speed 2 (meaning they can be activated in response to the activation of Spell Speed 1 Cards). You can only activate Spell Cards, except Quick-Play Spell Cards, during your Main Phase. You can activate Quick-Play Spell Cards from your hand during your turn, or if you Set them to the field, during either player's turn.

After Activation
After activation, Normal Spell Cards and Ritual Spell Cards are sent to the Graveyard.

Powerful Spell Cards
A lot of very powerful Spell Cards have been forbidden from Advanced Format tournament play for a long time. An example is "Pot of Greed". In some cases, Konami has released similar Cards with less powerful or more restrictive Effects to serve as replacements for some of these Forbidden Cards. For instance, "Pot of Greed" has been replaced by the weaker "Pot of Desires", which provides the same bonus as "Pot of Greed" but comes with a high activation cost.

There are six different types of Spell Cards

Normal Spell Cards Normal Spell Cards
Normal Spell Cards Continuous Spell Cards
Normal Spell Cards Equip Spell Cards
Normal Spell Cards Quick-Play Spell Cards
Normal Spell Cards Field Spell Cards
Normal Spell Cards Ritual Spell Cards
